So… you’re new to cannabis and you don’t know where to start. Or, maybe you had a bad first-time experience and are wary about trying again. We recommend easing yourself into the cannabis experience with low-THC strains.
LOW-THC CANNABIS IS IDEAL FOR FIRST-TIMERS!
But… why is a low-THC cannabis suitable for beginners?
THC is the psychoactive compound that guides the cannabis experience. Higher THC content will result in a more intense experience, while lower THC creates relaxed, lower-intensity highs. If you’re unfamiliar with how cannabis impacts you personally, it’s better to start with a milder product!
Lots of common cannabis strains have upwards of 20-25% THC content. If you’re new to cannabis or picking it up again after a break, we recommend you start with THC contents below 15%.
It might also be beneficial for you to try out strains with higher CBD content as well!
BUT WAIT… WHAT ARE THC AND CBD?
If this is your first time learning about cannabis, the terms THC and CBD might be unfamiliar. THC and CBD are cannabinoids. They influence how your cannabis experience feels. Cannabis effects are complex, but here are the basics:
THC stands for Tetrahydrocannabinol. As we mentioned before, it’s the psychoactive compound that influences the intensity of your cannabis experience.
CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It is the non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. Higher CBD strains will generally produce a chiller, less noticable high.
That’s why low THC and/or high CBD cannabis are great for people who are new to cannabis and want to start out with a milder experience.
But, the factors that influence your cannabis journey don’t end there! Cannabis effects are impacted by a mix of cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and strains. If you’d like to learn more about cannabis compositions and compounds, check out our blog series:

Now, meet Northern Lights & White Widow…
NORTHERN LIGHTS
Northern Lights stands among the most famous strains of all time, a pure indica cherished for its fast flowering, resinous buds and resilience during growth. An inbred descendant of original Afghani landrace strains, this strain has a pungently sweet earthy flavor with hints of citrus. Spicy aromas radiate from the crystal-coated buds, which sometimes reveal themselves in hues of purple. Northern Lights has given rise to famous hybrids like Shiva Skunk and Super Silver Haze.
Northern Lights contains mid-range THC levels of 13.5%.

WHITE WIDOW
White Widow is a hybrid strain, a cross between a Brazilian sativa landrace and a resin-heavy South Indian indica. An infamous name, as it has blessed every Dutch coffee shop menu since its birth in the 1990s. This strain gets its name from the fact that it is literally blanketed in white crystals. When it comes to smell, you can expect a citrus and peppery scent that is accompanied by a lemony aftertaste. White Widow’s genetics have given rise to many other legends like White Russian, White Rhino, and Blue Widow.
Just like Northern Lights, White Widow contains the same mid-range THC levels of 13.5%.
