Viridis is a proud Albertan grower. Our love for this province runs as deep as the water in Maligne Lake and we are always exploring and finding new secret spots to enjoy. We’ve selected our most recent adventures in beautiful AB that we think you should try before the leaves start to fall.

Goat Creek Trail (Canmore)
This trail will get the ol’ heart rate up. It’s not easy but the ride is worth the challenge. Take my advice, drive up Spray Lakes, we got caught in a dust storm pushing our bikes up the mountain (apparently we are not as H-core as we thought). Once you get to the trailhead, the adventure awaits – 37.3 km of the trail taking you all the way to Banff Springs Hotel. Prepare for the ride – layers, gloves, helmet, and snacks. Enjoy my friend!

Explore Southern AB. Castle River Provincial Park.
With so many options, it can be hard to choose which area to explore in AB. In my opinion, Southern AB often gets overlooked. If you’re sick of insane crowds near Banff and Canmore, you’ve got to venture down south towards the Crowsnest Pass. So many sights to see with a peaceful vibe in the Southern Rockies.

Hiking in the Nordegg Area – Photo by @cat.smyth via Instagram
Nordegg is an adventure enthusiast’s dreamland. Up your hiking game and check out the trails along the beautiful Abraham Lake or stumble across one of the countless spots to chill. Either way, you’ll be glad you made the trek out and you might even see a grizzly!

Be a Baddie in the Badlands – Photo by @bizht via Instagram
Home to the largest deposits of dinosaur bones in the world, need I say more? Your Instagram feed will thank you with endless backdrop options and, you might also learn a thing or two about the reptiles that walked this land 70 million years ago! Cue the Jurassic Park theme song…

Day Trippin’ at Elk Island
Sometimes you only have a few hours to escape so rather than scrollin’ on the couch wishing you were somewhere else, take a day trip to Elk Island National Park. Just a short 40-minute drive east of Edmonton with trails to explore. If you’re lucky (or unlucky) you might see a bison herd. Don’t be fooled, these guys can crack off at any moment and will charge you if they feel provoked. Better to keep a safe distance and never approach. Just stick to the trails, inhale some Viridis herb, and take in the beautiful Parkland ecosystem.
